Im so excited to share this project with you guys! So I have been wanting to put new curtains up in our house but was having a hard time finding ones that I liked. I knew that I wanted white ones and some that were also fairly heaviey so since I wasn’t having any luck finding something like that. I decided to purchase some drop cloth and turn them into curtains!! We headed to Home Depot and picked up a couple of packages of drop cloth, now fresh out of the package they weren’t the softest and the color wasn’t as light as I was wanting. I could have just washed them and they would have softened up but I was still wanting them white so I bleached them! Let me tell you bleaching them was the longest process ever but its so so so worth it!!!
I read a ton of different reviews on different drop cloth brands trying to find the best product to use and this is the brand that I found to be the best for bleaching drop cloth curtains. I went with the 6ft x 9ft drop cloth they are $13.98 a piece, here is a link to what I used, Drop Cloth
Your also going to need to find a place to soak them, we have a front load washer and with the amount of bleach you need to add to them they would never turn out using a front load washer. So you’ll want to use a top load washer or some type of galvanized tub or bucket to soak them in. I found that soaking them in hot water is also the best so if you have to use something other than a top load washer try to find something to cover the top and keep the heat in.
I let the washer fill up with hot water first and then I placed in one package. Because these are so big you’ll want to only do one at a time. Once the washer was full of hot water I then dumped in a 1/2 gallon of bleach and let it sit! This is the longest processes!! You’ll want to let it sit in there for a few hours. I did have to repeat that step a couple of times until the entire thing was the shade I wanted, so I used a ton of bleach!!! Once I got it to the color I was wanting, I washed it out fully and put it into the dryer with some dryer balls. It came out super soft and is now the perfect shade!! Also when I did each one I did use 2 different brands of bleach just to see if one made a difference over the other and I didn’t notice anything so I think any brand of bleach will be fine.
These are the curtain hooks that I used to hang them I have included a link to the exact ones I got. Clip Curtain Rings
